Last weekend The Winchester was honoured to host two last Events of the World Snooker Challenge Tour 2019/20 where it was decided who would receive a professional tour card for the next two seasons. Eight more players would qualify for the play-off stage to compete for the second professional tour card.

There were players from all over the world in this tournament including Hong Kong, Japan, Ukraine, Belgium and Germany. Each Event was played for two days.

The first Event was won by a former professional Allan Taylor who also qualified for the play-off stage. Congratulations to Allan!

The Event 10 was won by another former professional snooker player, Adam Duffy. This result allowed Adam to also qualify for the play-offs. Congratulations to Adam!

Great shout out to Lukas Kleckers from germany who regained his professional tour card by finishing second in the rankings but because Ashley Hugill who came first had already got his pro tour card earlier this year, Lukas automatically qualified with his points. Massive congratulations to Lukas!

Our resident former professional Rory McLeod is also in the play-offs. Well done, Rory, and good luck at the tournament!

Our special thanks to the team of referees, Julian Bell and Marcel Eckardt, with a TD Brendan Moore. Great job!

Thanks to our team who made the Events run smooth and enjoyable and all the supporters who came to The Winchester to watch the players compete.

Here at The Winchester we continuously improve our facilities. Today we have most of our snooker tables recovered by the World Snooker Services in the preparation for this weekend’s two World Snooker Challenge Tour Events 5 and 10.

It is a great honour to have been asked by the World Snooker Tour to host those events from Friday 28th February to Monday 2nd March.

These are prestigious tournaments, part of the Challenge Tour 2019-2020 which comprises 10 events, followed by a play-off.

Taken from the World Snooker Tour website:

“The player who finishes top of the Challenge Tour rankings after ten events will be awarded a Tour Card. The next eight players in the rankings with go into a play-off event, with the winner of that event to receive the second Tour Card. The draw for the play-off will be seeded with the player highest in the Challenge Tour rankings drawn against the eighth highest, and so on.

There will be six events in the UK and four in Europe. Snooker clubs and federations will be given the chance to bid to host events. Clubs do not need to use Star tables but those in the UK must be affiliated to the WPBSA’s 147 Club scheme. The prize money for each event will be £10,000.

UK Events
• The top 56 players from the 2019 Q School ranking list
• Eight Wildcards, to be selected with the intention to promote the development of grassroots talent
• If necessary, the last-64 round will then be topped up with players on the Q School ranking list”

We are committed to supporting the World Snooker Tour and the grass roots of our sport, so unfortunately there will be limited snooker tables available during this time for our members. Please call us on 01162813064 to plan your visit. We apologies for any inconvenience caused but urge you to come ans support the players.

We thank you for your cooperation.
